Vikrom Mathur

Founding Director

Vikrom has over 20 years of international experience in multidisciplinary research and policy analysis at the interface of technology, society and sustainability. His research explores the role of human choice and societal decision making in face of normative and scientific uncertainty in relation to climate change, emerging technologies and human settlements.

 He received his Doctor of Philosophy degree from Oxford University, Institute for Science, Society and Innovation. He holds a Master’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning from the Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden and a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical and Environmental Engineering from McGill University. 

 

Vikrom is Senior Fellow of the Observer Research Foundation, India and Associate Fellow of the Stockholm Environment Institute.

Ashali Bhandari

Senior Urban Planner

Ashali leads the Future Cities programme. Her work focuses on generating anticipatory knowledge and implementing urban experiments that reimagine the trajectory of growth for mid-sized cities in India. In the past, she has pursued her interest in the intersectionality of climate change, women’s access to urban spaces and informal livelihoods through her work in cities in India and Bangladesh. She also has experience in data driven climate action, participatory planning, greenfield site planning and affordable housing. She has a Master’s degree in City and Regional Planning from the School of Design at the University of Pennsylvania and a Bachelor’s degree in Geography from Middlebury College.

Zaheb Ahmad

Research Fellow

Zaheb explores governance and institutions in the context of digital transformations and urban sustainability. Most recently, he has worked on setting up India's first Urban Living Lab in Panaji - a platform to design, test and fine-tune socio-technical innovation in urban spaces - seen as an experimental governance approach to tackle persistent urban challenges through participation from a diverse set of stakeholders. Zaheb is interested in exploring the structural effects of digitalization on society and the environment, specifically, issues related to agency, equity, and environmental costs. Zaheb holds an LL.M with specialisation in Environmental Law from the University of California, Berkeley, School of Law, and B.L.S, LL.B from Government Law College, University of Mumbai.

Hema Vaishnavi Ale

Research Associate

Hema is an anthropologist by training, she likes to use ethnographic sensibilities to explore the everyday lives of people at the intersection of climate and environmental crises, and how newer pathways can be reimagined. Her area of work focuses on climate politics, low-carbon transitions and food systems transitions. She has an M. Phil in Social Anthropology from IIT Hyderabad, an M.A in political science and B. Tech in Biotechnology.

Nishant Sirohi

Law & Society Fellow

Nishant 's research interest is in the relationship between constitutional law, human rights, and development. 

 

He holds a B.A., LL.B. (Honours) degree from Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh (2012 - 2017) and a Post-Graduate Diploma in International Law & Diplomacy from the Indian Society of International, New Delhi (2018 - 2019). In addition, he is an M.Phil. (in Theory and Practice of Human Rights) candidate at the Norwegian Centre for Human Rights -University of Oslo.

Karthikeyan Kuppu

Tech & Society Fellow

Karthik  works within the Mobility and Data Governance verticals of the Urban Living Lab. His interests lie in leveraging data to solve mobility issues and to answer data policy questions through AI and technology lenses. Karthik holds a Master of City Planning degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a Bachelor of Architecture degree from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur. Since 2017, he has worked in Mexico, India, and the United States with government bodies to implement mobility initiatives and policies.

Ketki Naik

Office Manager

Ketki has 3 years of experience in office management and administration. She is responsible for day-to-day office operations and monthly billings. Ketki has completed her Bachelor's in Physical Education in 2017 from CACPE College, Savitribai Phule Pune University and is also a national level athlete.
